About the Center for Developmentally Disabled (CDD), based in Kansas City
Since our inception, we have advanced organizations across sectors by pairing strategic insight with disciplined execution. Our multidisciplinary team analyzes each objective, designs a tailored roadmap, and implements with rigorous oversight.
From specialized education for children with developmental disabilities at Rainbow Center to residential services, adult day programs, and employment support for adults, CDD helps individuals build independence, develop relationships, explore their interests, and participate more fully in their communities.
Founded in 1972, CDD began with a simple but powerful mission — to support individuals with developmental disAbilities in achieving their fullest potential.
Originally known as Sutton Group Homes, the organization was started by a devoted parent seeking quality services for her son. The first two homes opened in the Kansas City area, creating a nurturing, family-style environment where people with disabilities could thrive.
As the need for services grew, the agency was incorporated in 1975 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and officially became known as the Center for Developmentally Disabled (CDD).
