Doorways is CDD’s residential program, helping individuals with developmental disabilities create a home and a life that reflects who they are, what they enjoy, and what they want for their future.
We believe a home should be more than a place to live. It should be a place where you feel comfortable, supported, connected, and empowered to make your own choices. Through Doorways, individuals receive personalized support while building independence, developing life skills, forming meaningful relationships, and becoming active members of their communities.
Whether that means learning to cook a favorite meal, decorating a bedroom, spending time with friends, attending community events, working or volunteering, exploring new hobbies, or simply enjoying a quiet evening at home, Doorways supports individuals in creating a life that is meaningful to them.
Individualized Supported Living
Through Individualized Supported Living (ISL), individuals can live in a home in the community while receiving support tailored to their unique needs. Support may include help with daily routines, household responsibilities, meal preparation, transportation, personal care, community activities, health and wellness, and working toward personal goals.
Individuals are encouraged to have a voice in where they live, who they live with, how they spend their time, and the goals they want to pursue. As skills and confidence grow, support can evolve along with them.
Group Home Living
CDD’s group homes offer a welcoming, family-style environment with 24-hour support from trained staff. Individuals share a home with housemates while still receiving personalized support based on their individual needs, preferences, and goals.
Life in a group home includes opportunities to build friendships, participate in household activities, explore the community, enjoy recreational activities, work or volunteer, celebrate milestones, and develop greater independence.

At Doorways, there is no single definition of independence. For some, it may mean learning a new skill or getting a job. For others, it may mean choosing what to make for dinner, going to a Chiefs game, spending Saturday with friends, or becoming more involved in their neighborhood.
Whatever independence looks like for each person, Doorways is there to provide the support, encouragement, and opportunities to help make it possible.
